What is it?
Varicose veins are unsightly dilations of the veins of the legs. Depending on the size, they can be classified as spider veins, variculas or varicose veins. Patients may have associated symptoms such as pain, swelling, discomfort, itching and even night cramps. The main complications of varicose veins are thrombophlebitis and bleeding. In the long run, the chronic venous insufficiency produced by varicose veins can lead to changes in skin coloration and elasticity and the appearance of ulcers as a more serious complication.
Radiofrequency
Radiofrequency ablation is a minimally invasive procedure for the treatment of varicose veins that involves inserting a catheter into the diseased vein and applying constant and even amounts of heat to cause the vein walls to collapse and seal. Once the diseased vein is blocked, the blood follows a new route to other healthy veins.
This outpatient procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and sedation. We recommend that you wear stockings after treatment.
VenaSeal
Treating varicose veins with VenaSeal eliminates venous reflux by sealing the main surface veins with a catheter that releases small amounts of glue.
This technique does not require anaesthesia. Patients do not need to wear stockings or bandages after treatment and may resume their normal activity.
