BACKGROUND

The estate within which Castell Son Claret is located was first founded in 1450 and the castle in its current form dates from 1888. Carefully restored and opened as a luxury hotel in spring 2013, Castell Son Claret has 41 elegant suites and rooms located in seven buildings. Surrounded by Arabian gardens and the fragrance of bergamot, grapefruit, orange, rose and jasmine, the rooms have an elegant and contemporary design, many notable for their terrace or gardens and others for their private pools. The hotel’s spa Bellesa de Claret uses many ingredients found in the gardens, including almond blossom and lavender in its treatments. Castell Son Claret is situated at the foot of the UNESCO protected La Tramuntana mountains, surrounded by a lavish park and gardens in 326 acres of unspoilt nature, giving and unparalleled sense of freedom, access to pure mountain air and spectacular views. The hotel is home to Zaranda restaurant, which is the only two Michelin starred restaurant in the Balearic Islands as well as the Mediterranean inspired Olivera restaurant.

LOCATION

Castell Son Claret is located just outside the village of Calvía, at the foot of the UNESCO World Heritage listed La Tramuntana mountain range. The hotel is 25km from the centre of Palma and 32km from Palma International Airport (PMI).

ACCOMMODATION

The Castell Son Claret estate is comprised of seven listed buildings from various eras in history, meaning the hotel has 41 rooms and suites of varying size and layout. Twenty-three guestrooms are located in the main building, with the other fifteen suites and rooms to be found in the six former stables of the castle, all grouped around an Arabic fountain. Many rooms have their own private gardens or pools. Each contemporary or suite has a spacious bathroom, equipped with rain shower heads, some with separate bathtub, individually adjustable air conditioning and underfloor heating (available all year).

RATES

Rooms are priced from €295 per night and suites from €755 per room per night, including daily breakfast, WIFI, parking, tax and service.

OLIVERA

From sunrise to sunset, restaurant Olivera offers a beautiful and peaceful setting for leisurely dining, with spectacular views from its sun-dappled terrace across the hotel´s swimming pool and fragrant gardens to the mountains beyond. The day at Olivera begins with breakfast a la carta, with freshly baked pastries, local cheeses, Iberico ham, organic honey, and homemade preserves. Throughout the day, a light menu of typical Mallorcan dishes made from local, Mediterranean ingredients is served. As the sun sets, Olivera’s terrace and historic interior transforms into a setting that offers typical Spanish-Mediterranean cuisine a la carte. Highlights of the menu include Roasted octopus with grilled spring onions and romesco sauce; Homemade burrata cheese with aubergine caponata; Confit of salt cod with mint scented pea puree & Mallorcan butifarró sausage; Mediterranean Sea bass with “prawns’ suquet” or Moroccan style slow roasted shoulder of spring lamb served with spiced couscous. Olivera’s extensive wine menu holds many excellent Mallorcan wines just waiting to be discovered. Opening hours: daily from 7:30 am until midnight.

ZARANDA

Castell Son Claret’s gourmet dining restaurant, the two Michelin star Zaranda, is where Chef Fernando P. Arellano presents a gastronomic dinner experience. A native of Madrid, Chef Fernando is the only chef to win and retain two Michelin stars in the Balearic Islands, an achievement attained after twenty years of dedication, hard work, creativity and passion for his art. Using market fresh, local ingredients as well as spices and flavours, Fernando and his team prepare extraordinary culinary compositions. The restaurant is decorated with pieces of local art and in the summer months, the tables of the restaurant are arranged around the romantic courtyard of the Castell, making this the centrepiece of the evening events. Sebastian Longo the Sommelier is in control of the hotel’s private and well-stocked menu with more than 600 wine references. He was awarded as, Sommelier of the Year, in the Balearic Gastronomy Writers  Awards 2017.

Opening hours: Tuesday–Saturday 7:30-10:30pm (Summer: Tuesday-Sunday, 7-11pm).

CASTELL BAR

The hotel’s Castell Bar is located in an atmospheric space that was once the estate’s carriage store and is perfect for enjoying a tea or coffee by day, or an innovative cocktail or aperitif by night. The bar offers a fresh and dynamic menu of cocktails designed by barman, Roberto Muscaridola, using seasonal ingredients and produce from the hotel’s gardens, such as lavender and rosemary.

SPA BELLESA DE CLARET

Castell Son Claret’s spa, Bellesa de Claret, is wellness concept based on the idea of comprehensive relaxation by restoring inner balance. Facilities include indoor-pool, sauna, steam, hammam and two private treatment rooms, one for couple’s treatments. Treatments on offer include massages customised for the seasons, featuring almond, olive or lavender from the hotel’s garden.

ACTIVITIES

Castell Son Claret’s approach to wellness goes beyond the spa and encompasses every aspect of the estate. The hotel offers personal fitness instructors, outdoor yoga, a resident cycling coach, a large outdoor panoramic pool, gym, tennis courts, jogging trails, walking, hiking and bikes for rent. The hotel can also arrange instructors in meditation, yoga and Qi Gong, which can be practiced anywhere in the estate to contribute to individual relaxation and heighten awareness for the natural beauty of the immediate surroundings. In addition to numerous small paths that are distributed all over the estate, there is a 7.2 kilometre course with slight inclines leading through unspoiled countryside. Guests can jog along the route, take short tours with the one of the six hotel bikes or simply enjoy a walk.

GARDENS & ESTATE

The beauty of the Mallorcan countryside is reflected in the lovingly created gardens that surround Castell Son Claret. In the extensive grounds a small paradise has been created that will immerse guests into the history of this enchanted place. Island typical trees like almond, olive and orange as well as bergamot, vetiver, jasmine, coriander and rose all come together to create a very special scent that drifts through the entire estate and that activates all senses. This characteristic scent is also available as our ‘Jardi de Claret’ room fragrance and amenities in cooperation with the local company, Gaia Products.

BOARD ROOM RETREATS & PRIVATE EVENTS

Castell Son Claret has one meeting rooms accommodating up to 30 people, as well as unlimited breakout space under the open sky/in the garden and a private courtyard perfect for boardroom meetings, small incentives or private family gatherings. The Castell can also be rented exclusively. Private spaces include the historical oil mill, Sa Tafona, and a smaller meeting room for up to six people located in the main building, with access to the courtyard. Outside a large family-style table can be used for business lunches and coffee breaks al fresco – a welcome diversion from the routine. The 132-hectare estate with its secluded niches and beautiful gardens offers unlimited options for family celebrations, incentives and product launches.

WEDDINGS

A romantic wedding in Castell Son Claret is an unforgettable experience, with only a few, selected celebrations are taking place each year. In the historic buildings and grounds of the castle, the bride and groom can celebrate a fairytale wedding with their guests. Romantic courtyards and terraces can be set for banquets and parties under a starry sky or with the dramatic backdrop of the Tramuntana Mountains. The location, combined with impeccable service and culinary creations from the kitchen of celebrity chef, Fernando P. Arellano, make for a perfect wedding. CASTELL CLASSICS

Each summer, Castell Son Claret presents a selected number of al fresco opera events, the “Castell Classics” in cooperation with European opera houses and festivals. Opera galas under the stars, accompanied by a gala menu from our culinary teams: Fernando P. Arellano´s two Michelin-starred Zaranda and our Restaurant Olivera. Castell Classics are open for external guests. Dates to be confirmed for 2019.
